God’s Word commands us that we respond to Yahweh with singing. The songs we are to sing as modelled for us in the Psalms are to be songs of praise for who God is, songs of thanksgiving for God’s great work of salvation, songs of petition asking God to act in accordance with His Word, songs of lament when life in this fallen world hurts and songs of longing as we look forward to God’s eternal kingdom.
In the last year, we have worked had to get our theology clear on why we sing and what we are to sing about through using the book Sing! by the Gettys. Hopefully the church has seen the effect of this training in our song choice. We have also been growing in numbers and skill as God has enabled us. We pray that we would keep growing as God richly grants us grace. “Let the word of Christ dwell in [us] richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in [our] hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:16)
